The municipality of Mostardas (12,758 inhabitants in 2016; 19,830 ha) is
located 210 km south of Porto Alegre, between Lagoa dos Patos and the Atlantic
Ocean.

The flag of Mostardas is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 576 promulgated on
25 January 1985.
Article 2.
The flag of the municipality shall have a
white background, charged in the center with three horizontal stripes of equal
width, using the basic colors of the coat of arms of the municipality: green,
red and yellow, in this order, starting from the flag's upper part.
Article 3.
The flag shall be charged in the center with a vertical ellipse,
white, featuring the coat of arms of the municipality.
Article 4.
The
two sides of the flag shall be exactly the same, mirroring each other.
Article 6.
The design of the flag shall obey the description given in Article
2.
I. The flag's width shall be of 100 units.
II. The flag's length shall
be of 143 units.
III. The ellipse described in Article 3 shall be of 60 units
in width and 50 units in length.
IV. Each stripe shall be of 9 units in
width.

The coat of arms of Mostardas is prescribed by
Municipal Law No. 247 promulgated on 7 December 1973.
Article 1.
§1.
The coat of arms shall have for basic colors gold, symbolizing the people's
loyalty to the homeland; blue, symbolizing the sky over Rio Grande do Sul;
green, symbolizing the municipality's lagoons, fields and forests; red,
symbolizing faith and patriotic love; argent, symbolizing serenity, firmness and
people's social skills.
§2. The coat of arms shall be surmounted by a red
scroll inscribed in letters argent "Mostardas - 26 de dezembro de 1963",
indicating the date of creation of the municipality. The shield shall be
surmounted by a five-towered crown symbolizing the organization of the parish
and town of Mostardas.
§3. The shield's outline is limited in the upper part
by two right angles and in the lower part by two curves converging in base of a
perpendicular line dividing the shield in the middle and crossed by a line of
horizontal division.
§4. The four parts in which the coat of arms is divided
feature the following charges: in the upper left part, on a green background an
onion and the half of an other one, representing the municipality's main
agricultural product; in the upper right part, on a red background, a horse, a
bovine and a sheep, representing the municipality's animal productions; in the
lower left part, on a yellow background, plants of rice with panicles and white
heights representing the potential of salt extraction for the municipality; in
the lower right part, in the background a red lighthouse emitting white light
rays on a blue sky, beneath a fish in water, to represent the safety of
Mostardas shores for seamen and fish resources of the lagoons, respectively.
