The church (in German "Kirche") makes the flag of Meikirch canting.

Perhaps twice canting. Maybe the star stands for Mary, whose month is May, German "Mai"
(pronounced quite like "Mei").

[The foundation of the village is connected with the foundation of the nearby monastery of Frienisberg in the 12th century. Originally, the village was called "Mönchkilchen" (monk church). "Meikirch" seems to be a derivative of it.]
