Birgland Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, on top of a 5-fold-mount issuant Vert an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable, in chief two fleur-de-lis Argent.
Meaning:
The mount, actually a doublemount on top of a triplemount, is a canting element, as the name of the municipality means "highland" and is referring to the landscape of the Upper Palatinate Jura. The municipality was established in 1972 by a merger of Eckeltshof, Frechetsfeld, Fürnried, Poppberg and Schwend. In 1978 Sunzendorf was added. The fleur-de-lis are reminding on the Counts of Sulzbach, former local rulers. The embattled wall is taken from the arms of the Counts of Preysing, whose seat had been Lichtenegg Castle. The counts ruled the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) from 1580 until 1759.
