Shield Argent, an eradicated beech Vert, superimposed by a perch Azure finned Gules.
Meaning:
The village developed around a convent in the 11th century and became a city at the end of the 13th century. In 1320 it gained the same rights like an Free Imperial City. The oldest arms from the 14th century already display fish and beech tree. The fish is probably symbolising the location on the banks of the Federsee, a lake. The beech (German: Buche) is canting. Around 1500 the current pattern prevailed. The shield colours had been quartered of black and yellow, in order to stress that the city had become a dominion of Württemberg since 1810. Those colours were removed in the early 20th century. The flag colours are a repetition of the former shield colours. In 1963 Buchau gained the title of a spa and was renamed into Bad Buchau.
