Renaissance shield Or, a bear rampant Sable tongued Gules.
Meaning:
In 1443 German King Friedrich III confirmed the status of a privileged "imperial village" (German: Reichsdorf), a village under direct imperial rule. Seal prints ar known since 1470. The seal already displayed the canting bear passant on a lawn. Within its circumscription appeared the word "civitas". At that time Mainbernheim thus already had city rights. Seals from the 16th century and from 1603 displayed the bear gorged with collar, annulet and chain. This had been erroneously considered to be a symbol of subjugation to the Margraves of Ansbach. The tinctures are known since 1818, but due to the former direct imperial rule they probably always had been black and golden.
