Todtnau Coat of Arms

The golden (= yellow) shield has a green base. The central figure is a miner, dressed in a green uniform carrying a black mallet, a torch with red flame, crampons and other equipment.
Meaning:
Todtnau belonged to the Abbey of St. Blasien as a bailiwick (Vogtei). The main business line since the Middle Ages had been digging for silver. This is symbolized by the miner in full equipment. The miner appeared on seals since 1341, on the arms since the 19th century. The tinctures - the draft was made in 1969 - were fixed on occasion of the official approval. Todtnau gained the rank of a city in 1809 and again in 1950.
