Wolfach Coat of Arms

In a blue shield is a golden (= yellow), Z-shaped, facetted wolf trap.
Meaning:
The city was founded by the Lords of Wolfach in 1260. In the 14th century the city became the an important central place of the Counts of Fürstenberg. The oldest seal from 1370 displays a banner with the wolf trap, the symbol of the Lords of Wolfach. The oldest use of official arms dates from the 19th century and these arms showed only the hook. Older images, since the 16th century, have shown the use of the hook as a city symbol, but not in official arms. The colours differed widely in the different images, and were officially determined in 1956.

The flag is known since 1695 and was renewed in 1722, after it was burnt.
