Unidad Educativa Vencedores del Cenepa was established in November 1995 in
Puerto Bolívar as Colegio Particular Héroes del Cenepa, to be renamed to Colegio
Particular Vencedores del Cenepa.
The school's name (Cenepa Winners,
formerly, Cenepa Heroes) refers to the Cenepa War, a border conflict that
opposed Ecuador and Peru from 26 January to 26 February 1995. Both sides claimed
military victory and eventually signed a peace agreement in Brasilia on 26
October 1998.
