Presentation of Mirandilla

The municipality of Mirandilla (1,267 inhabitants in 2019; 4,160 ha; municipal website) is located 80 km east of Badajoz and 20 km north-east of Mérida.

Mirandilla is a place of ancient settlement, as evidenced by the orange grove located in La Atalaya, which is watered by a complex irrigation system attributed to the Romans, the Visigoths or the Arabs.
The village was re-settled either in the 13th century by colonists from Miranda de Ebro or in the 14th century by Portuguese colonists from Miranda do Douro. Its smaller original size explains the name of Mirandialla (Little Miranda). The neighboring hamlets of La Atalaya de Ramos and Muñina were subsequently incorporated to the village, increasing its size.
Mirandilla was part of the Community of the Town and Land of Mérida.
