The municipality of Mambrilla de Castrejón (117 inhabitants in 2010; 1,604 ha; municipal website) is located 90 km of Burgos.
Mambrilla de Castrejón was mentioned for the first in 1143 time as part of the defence line of river Duero, set up in the early 10th century. The name of the village means "The Castle's Hillock", from mambla, "a hillock", and castrejón, "a small castle". In the Middle Ages, the village was incorporated to the Community of the Village and Land of Roa; in 1143, King Alfonso VIII granted a charter to the village.

The flag and arms of Mambrilla de Castrejón are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 12 March 1998 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed
on 16 March 1998 by the President of the Government and published on 2
April 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 63 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular flag, with proportions 1:1, red with a blue wavy fess of 1/5 of the flag's hoist. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Azure a mound argent over waves argent and azure a tower or. 2a. Azure eight stars argent in orle, 2b. Gules a castle or port and windows azure on the gate a greyhound or. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.
The Royal Academy of History found not acceptable the use of the royal
arms of Castile, even concealed by the addition of a greyhound. The
suppression of this quarter would increase the simplicity of the
design, not to mention the removal of the weird visual effect caused
by the juxtaposition of a castle and a tower. The two other quarters,
totally acceptable, could be arranged in a new coat of arms, as
follows: "Per pale, 1. Azure a tower or on a mount argent the base
wavy, 2. Azure eight stars argent in orle. The shield surmounted with
the Royal Spanish crown".
The Academy assessed the proposed flag according to its written
description since the submitted drawing showed something completely
different. Provided the coat of arms is modified as requested, the
proposed symbols can be approved without any difficulty.
