The flag of Fasnia, designed on 24 October 1997 by the Heraldry Commission of the Canary Islands upon request of the Municipal Council, adopted on 17 February 1998 by the Municipal Council and validated on 27 May 1998 by the Heraldry Commission of the Canary Islands, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 17 July 1998 by the Government of the Canary Islands and published on 21 August 1998 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 106, pp. 9,615-9,616 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular panel [...], in length one and a half the width, made of two horizontal stripes of equal dimension, the upper red, recalling the eruptions that started on 5 January 1705 and whose lava streams originate the Montaña Negra volcanos -, and the lower blue, recalling the gushing of water from the mountain, at the origin of the communities of El Chifira and La Gambueza and of the development of agriculture in the municipality.
When added to the flag, the coat of arms should be placed in the middle of the panel, preferably on both sides of the flag.
The coat of arms of Fasnia is prescribed by Decree No. 2,838, adopted on 31 October 1968 by the Spanish Government and published on 19 November 1968 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 278, p. 16,479 (text).
The coat of arms, approved by the Royal Academy of History, is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. 1. Argent two rocks proper over waves azure and argent, 2. Azure three garbs or. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown open.
According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the rocks represent the Fasnia Rocks, located on the seashore. The three garbs symbolize the three settlements that form the municipality and the traditional grain vultivation.
