The municipality of Fresno de la Polvorosa (176 inhabitants in 2009; 411 ha; municipal website) is located in the northwest of Zamora Province.
Fresno de la Polvorosa, according to the local tradition, was once called Tejares. A stone of the parish church is said to have been brought from the original church of Tejares; since the stone is engraved with the year "1747" some say that the today's village of Fresno de la Polvorosa was founded in 1747. There is, unfortunately, no historical record to confirm this "foundation". A local story says that a farmer ploughing his field in the supposed location of Tejares found a big gallery filled with remains of ceramics, but this story is not confirmed either.
