The municipality of Mayalde (225 inhabitants in 2009; 4,371 ha) is located in the south of Zamora Province, on the border with Salamanca Province, 30 km from Zamora.

The flag and arms of Mayalde are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 24
March 2003 by the Municipal Council, signed on 30
September 2003 by the Mayor, and published on 16 October 2003 in the official
gazette of Castilla y León, No. 201, p. 13,778 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 2:3, made of two vertical stripes, at hoist red, at fly white with three equal blue horizontal stripes.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Gules a bishop's crozier argent ensigned with a mitre of the same, 2. Argent three fesses azure. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
According to the memoir supporting the proposal of municipal
symbols, released in 1999, Mayalde never used proper arms. Since the
oldest written sources on Mayalde, dating from the 13th century,
mention the Bishop of Zamora as the village's lord, the first quarter
of the arms are charged with a bishop's crozier and mitre; gules and
argent are the colors of Castile and Leén. The second quarter recalls
the importance of water in the municipality; in the proposal, the
fesses were wavy, which seems to have been changed in the final
version.
The flag was derived from the coat of arms, the bishop's symbols being
dropped.
