At
http://www.flickr.com/photos/legolam/367102886 one can see a photo of L-Imdina
(Malta) with a white flag with crowned coat of arms. The flag shown at the top
of this page is a red/white banner of arms.
Olivier Touzeau 5 May 2007
Zooming in on the image shows the crown (with four visible towers) in shades
of yellow and a vey small and dim "Cittą Notabile" under the shield.

Martins-Tuvįlkin, 7 May 2007
L-Imdina was the ancient capital of Malta.

The Rabat municipality on Malta island is the suburb of
L-Imdina. I believe Rabat means suburb, while L-Imdina (pronounced imdina, but cognate of Medina) is a walled city.
Ole Andersen, 30 October 2002
In French médina is used as follows, from Petit Larousse Illustré:
médina (from Arabic madina): Old city - as opposed to the modern European new city - in the Arab countries, mostly in Morocco.I believed most traditional cities in Morocco were fortified, so your translation as "walled city" might be appropriate.
Blazon: Per pale Argent and Gules. These arms possibly stem from Count Roger Hauteville's, which were the base also for the national flag.
António Martins, 1 March 2000
I spotted the city flag of L-Imdina in November 2000. It was its banner-of-arms
- proportions 3:5, as near as I can tell - the old undefaced white-red vertical bicolor.
