Blantyre is the oldest urban centre in Malawi. It
was founded by Scottish Missionaries in 1870 and is named after the town in
Scotland where Dr David Livingstone was born.
It is the second largest city and is located in the south of the country.
It is capital of the the Southern Region as well as the Blantyre District.

The municipal flag of Blantyre has a white field with the full municipal Arms
in colour in the centre.
