Blazon: I sølv en liggende rød løve. In English: Argent a lion couchant

Approved by the royal resolution of 12 February 1988 after a drawing by Olga

The municipal name mean Red Island, and the most striking formation on the
island is a large rock formation looking somewhat like an ancient Sphinx, called
the Rødøyløva - the Lion of Red Island. It seemed only natural to represent it
on the municipal arms. The silver background is said to stand for the sea.
