Coat of arms of the local community of Bilje - Image by Eugene Ipavec, 20 September 2005
The arms of Bilje are canting, since the name of the community derives from, or is at least homonymous with bilka which means something like "blade of grass" or "small plant or shoot." The community website has more details on the coat of arms, summarized below in translation.
The shape of the shield is the same as that of Miren - Kostanjevica
municipality, to indicate a connection to it. The arms contain two symbols:
a triple hill, which is heraldically correct, and a plant, which due to its
growth and freedom is not presented in symmetry. The hills represent the nearby
hilly countryside. The plant represents growth, environment and is connected to
the place name, Bilje.
The colors of the arms are red and green, while the basis is white, in place of
the silver of the shield. Red symbolizes the color of earth and therefore
of brick, which emphasises the long local brickmaking tradition. Red is also
related to fire and love, and also the battle for life, and it is the color of
blood. Psychologically it is the color of self-confidence. Green is the color of hope and growth. It means the victory of spring over winter, life over death. It is the most common color in nature; the color of leaves and grass, and also of life, security, normality. Therefore it is natural to use his color to represent vegetation and Bilje as a cultivated natural
environment.
