About the city:
"Fernandina Beach is a city in Nassau County in the state of Florida in the United States of America and on Amelia Island. The area was first inhabited by the Timucuan Indian tribe. Known as the "Isle of 8 Flags", it had the following flags flown over it since 1562: France, Spain, Great Britain, Spain (again), the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America, and the United States. It is the only municipality in the United States that has flown eight different national flags. As of 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates the City's population to be 12,076. It is the county seat of Nassau County." - from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernandina_Beach,_Florida.

The city seal and the flag it appeared on were revised after the city commission was told in 2016 that the seal showed the incorrect "Castle and Lion" flag of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella rather than the correct Cross of Burgundy flag used by the Spanish military unit that had occupied Amelia Island.

The Fernandina Beach Police Department flag (from 2021 and as shown here) and seal still use the incorrect Castle and Lion flag.
