Mikhail Vladimirovich Revnivtsev (1957-2012)
|
Today, on December 23, 2012, at 18:30 MSK, the prominent Russian vexillologist Mikhail Revnivtsev died of leukemia, his daughter reported. Mikhail was a founding father of the greatest Russian discussion group on vexillology and heraldry - RussoVex. He was also the administrator of several very important websites devoted to the vexillology and heraldry of Russia and some other countries of CIS: including vexillographia and heraldicum.
Denis Sacharnych, Izhevsk, Udmurtia, Russia.
We have just received the sad news that on 23 December one of the founders of vexillological activity in Russia, Mikhail Revnivtsev has died. He was only 55. I started writing letters to Mikhail in 1993, and sometimes he called me by phone, but unfortunately I never personally met him in real life. May he Rest in peace.
Victor Lomantsov, Orenburg, Russia
I'm really sad to hear this. Please, send my condolences to his family.
Valentin Poposki, Skopje, Macedonia
I am very shocked to hear of his passing. He has been a great friend and colleague for so many years. He was one of the main driving forces to bring Russian vexillology to the entire world and his contributions to vexillology will never be forgotten. I also wish to send my condolences to his family, friends and his colleagues in the RCVH.
Zachary Harden, Russellville, Arkansas, USA
Even though I did not know Mr. Revnivtsev personally, I like to acknowledge his contribution to the world of flags and his tenacity and skill when doing research on the topics he covered. His is an unthinkable loss to the vexillological community and my best wishes to his family and relatives as they go through this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
Esteban Rivera, Medellín, Columbia
Really bad news. I had many intensive exchanges of letters with Retnisev and I appreciated him very much. My condolences.
Jaume Ollé Jolle, Reus, Spain
Mikhail was a founder of the Russian vex-list, and he was involved in the design of some very original flags adopted by many Russian sub-units and municipalities in the last 15 years. He had a great influence on Russian vexillology.
Rob Raeside, Director, Flags of the World, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada
This is indeed sad news. On behalf of Flags Australia, I should like to pass on my condolences to the Russian Centre of Vexillology, who have lost their founder and to Mikhail Revnivtsev's family. His contribution to Russian and international vexillology will be missed. Rest in Peace.
Ralph Bartlett, President, Flags Australia
As I read the comments about Mikhail Revnivtsev's life and his work, I'm reminded about how many individuals in the vexillological community make important contributions to the field on almost a daily bases and yet receive little notice or recognition for their efforts and passions - until unfortunately the end. Frankly my personal vexillological interests didn't lie in the field of interest that were Mikhail's passion, and so I was not aware of his work or importance, and obviously I am the poorer because of it. I can only encourage all of us, to reach out and make more efforts to personally meet and communicate with our fellow vexillogists, and if we do, I suspect that all our lives will be richer because of it.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, it sounds like I missed knowing an interesting, knowledgable, and creative person, someone I would have valued as a friend and colleague.
