Shield Argent with base wavy Azure, a castle Gules with two towers with cone roofs, connected and based by embattled walls masoned Sable, in chief an impending inescutcheon Argent, charged with a griffin rampant Gules.
Meaning:
Schwedt is located near a ford of Oder River. Near a Slavic castle a settlement developed around 1200, ruled by the Dukes of Pomerania. In 1250 it became a possession of the Margraves of Brandenburg and was called a city since 1265. In 1354 - 1479 the city was temporarily regained by Pomerania. A castle was built in 1670. The city was the seat of the branch line of the Margraves of Brandenburg Schwedt from 1689 - 1788. The oldest arms are based on a local seal from 1337, displaying an eagle. The griifin was established in the 15th century, when the city belonged to Pomerania. The base wavy is representing River Oder.
