The municipality of Aldea del Fresno (2,528 inhabitants in 2014; 5,178 ha; municipal website) is located in the south-west of the Community of Madrid, on the border with Castilla-La Mancha (Province of Toledo), 50 km of Madrid.
Aldea del Fresno is of unknown exact origin. The village was probably
founded before the 12th century by the Moors and subsequently
reconquerred by the Christian knights from Segovia. The municipal
territory included the villa of Tozara, sold by King Alfonso VIII to
the Council of Segovia in 1208 and disappeared long ago.
Aldea del Fresno was acquired in 1627 by Catalina de Mendoza; the next
owner of the village was the Marchioness of La Fresneda, Viscountess
of El Fresno.
Aldea del Fresno is the birth place of His Grace Braulio Rodríguez
Plaza (b. 1944), Bishop of Osma-Soria (1987), Salamanca (1995), and Archbishop of Valladolid (2002), currently Archbishop of Toledo and Primate of Spain (2009).

The flag of Aldea del Fresno (photo, photo) is horizontally divided blue-green. In the center of the flag is placed a red square charged with a white star inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
The flag was selected in a public contest organized in 1997, which
yielded 12 entries. The winning design was submitted by Fernando
Agudo, the parish priest.
Blue represents the sky while green represents the mountains
dominating the municipality.
The red square is a symbol of perfection, red being the colour of the
Community of Madrid.
The flag, unveiled in July 1997, does not appear to have been
officially approved. Neither was the coat of arms, seemingly.
