On January 18, 2024, South Korea's Jeollabuk-do was officially transformed
into the "Jeonbuk Special Autonomous Region". Jeonbuk is the fourth special
municipal entity in South Korea after Jeju, Sejong and Gangwon.
On this
occasion, Jeonbuk also unveiled a new version of the provincial flag and
emblem. The logo consists of two characters “전북” which is the Korean word for
“Jeonbuk”. "북" is specially made in the shape of the sunrise horizon, which
means the combination of the "land" of Jeonbuk's history and the "horizon" of
Saemangeum, expressing the Jeonbuk Special Administrative Region as a world,
opening new horizons in the future. A living and economic area and a promising
image of Jeonbuk in the future.
The provincial flag combines the "전북"
logo with the "특별자치도" logo, which is equivalent to "Jeonbuk Special Autonomous
Region" on the white flag. The lower part is a green semicircle that
represents the rising sun, like "䶁" in the provincial coat of arms.

From: http://culture.chonbuk.kr/:
The upper part, by and large, represents the enterprising spirit of the inhabitants of the province. The red color stands for the strong enthusiasm of the inhabitants of the province. The green color stands for our beautiful scenery. The yellow color stands for the peace.
The dark blue curved line of the lower part appears as the letter 'Chon' of Chonbuk (North Cholla Province) to be lying and shaped like the waving West Sea, and stands for our province Chollabuk-do which is rising as a leading part in the Yellow Sea Age.
