"The 문화체육관광부 (English: Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Physical 
Education) is a central government agency responsible for the areas of tourism, 
culture, art, religion, and sports. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism was 
originally a suborganization of the Ministry of Education created on November 4, 
1948 through Presidential Decree No. 15). Later, the Ministry of Transportation 
set up a tourism department. The Ministry of Information (as Department of the 
Public Information) was set up ion June 22, 1961 (through Law, Article number of 
631, Cabinet Decree Number 21) for administration of art and cultural affairs. 
It was renamed Ministry of Culture and Public Information on July 24, 1968 
through Presidential Decree No. 3519. Then on December 30,1989 the Division of 
the Ministry of Culture and Public Information into two divisions of the 
Ministry of Culture and the Department of the Public Information (Law, Article 
number of 4183). Then on January 3, 1990 January 3 the Ministry of Culture is 
established through Presidential Decree No. 12895. On March 6, 1993 comes the 
unification of Ministry of Culture and the Department of the Youth Sports, as 
Ministry of Culture and Sports through Presidential Decree No. 13869. On 
February 28, 1998 the inauguration of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism takes 
place, an amendment of the Government Organization Law, article number 5529. On 
August 19, 2000, the renaming of the Departments takes place, and the Department 
of Tourism and Facility is renamed the Department of Citizen Tourism.
Further 
organizational changes take place in the following years, to become the current 
institution on February 29, 2008 as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 
through yet another amendment of their Constitution, the "Government 
Organization Law" (https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Government_Organization_Act_of_South_Korea), 
by Act No. 8852 of February 29, 2008."
