The National Museum of History of Moldova (Muzeul Național de Istorie a 
Moldovei) was established by Order No. 561 “On reprofiling of the Museums” 
issued on 21 December 1983 by the Ministry of Culture.
The State Museum 
of History of Moldavian SSR (MSSR) was created on the basis of the Republican 
Museum of Military Glory, into which it was incorporated, and the historical 
collection of the State Museum of History and Regional Studies of MSSR, housed 
in the restoring historical building of the former Boys’ Gymnasia No.1 in 
Chișinău.
The State Museum of History of MSSR was renamed to the National 
Museum of History of Moldova by Order No. 231 issued on 22 October 1991 by the 
Ministry of Culture.
In 2006 the National Museum of History of Moldova 
was reorganized into the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova 
through absorption of the Museum of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of 
Moldova, according to the Decree No. 1,326 issued on 14 December 2005 by the 
Government of the Republic of Moldova.
The National Museum of Archaeology and 
History of Moldova was renamed as the National Museum of History of Moldova by 
Decree No. 184 issued on 13 March 2013 by the Government of the Republic of 
Moldova.
The National Museum of History of Moldova is subordinated to the 
Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, its scientific activity being 
coordinated by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

The flag and arms of the National Museum of History of Moldova, prescribed by 
Order No. 8 issued on 15 March 2004 by the Director of the Museum, were 
registered on the Armorial General of the Republic of Moldova by Decision No. 
402 issued on 30 September 2015 by the Heraldry National Commission and 
published on 14 April 2017 in the official gazette, No. 119-126, Article 796.
The flag is composed of a rectangular (2:3) cloth, red, charged in the 
center with a yellow auroch's head surrounded dexter by a white rose, sinister 
by a white contourned crescent, and between the horns by a white "cruciferous 
gate" emblem.
The flag is a banner of the museum's arms, crown and scroll 
omitted.
