It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, a dragon rampant Gules, accompanied by a corn cob Argent leaved Vert in dexter chief and a grapevine Purpure leaved Vert in sinister chief. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "S. JORGE - ARCOS DE VALDEVEZ". 
Meaning:
The dragon is an attribute of St. George, local patron saint and name giver of the commune.

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, on fess point a heraldic rose Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert, surrounded by an impending full arch Sable masoned Argent, on either chief corner an orange proper leafed Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "ERMELO - ARCOS DE VALDEVEZ". 
Meaning:
The rose is an attribute of St. Mary, the local patron saint.
