NguyenPhucDit, 23 August 2026On 24th June 2026, the municipal council of Archangel, adopted a flag.
"The flag of Arkhangelsk is a white cloth with a wide blue diagonal stripe
and the historical coat of arms of Arkhangelsk in the center. The blue diagonal
symbolizes the Northern Dvina River with its right and left banks, while the
coat of arms of Archangel Michael reflects the city's centuries-old history and
its role as the birthplace of the Russian Navy," - the statement reads.

The website Geraldika.ru (project of the Eurasian Heraldic Center, dedicated
to heraldry and vexillology and with the main goal of providing information
coverage of the activities of heraldic organizations in Russia) reports in

of the city of Arkhangelsk, approved by the city council on 24th June 2026, but
specifies the following: "The 2026 flag project does not comply with the
heraldic rules and guidelines of the Heraldic Council under the President of the
Russian Federation; state registration of such a flag for Arkhangelsk is
impossible".

The Heraldic Council disallows any municipal flag that is not a banner of arms. Flags of regions may use original designs.

The City of Arkhangel'sk is the capital of Arkhangel'skaya Region. The City
District has 9 Territorial Districts, but they have no flags or emblems, as far
as I know. There is an unofficial flag that is produced and sells. It is a
banner of arms, and probably will be official one day.

A flying archangel in blue robes with a fiery sword and shield is depicted on a
golden shield, defeating a black devil. This is the same coat of arms from 1780.
