Symbols

The flag and arms of Nova Palma are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 228 promulgated on 1 September 1977.

Article 2.
The municipal flag, composed of a white cloth, shall feature in the center the coat of arms of the municipality.

Article 3.
The coat of arms of the municipality is composed of a shield surmounted by a crown with medieval towers. It is divided by two crossed stripes forming four triangles. In the upper triangle is featured the stylized silhouette of a cordillera, representing Serra de São Martinho; in the left triangle, a bunch of grapes; in the lower triangle, a factory, representing the municipality's hydro-electric power plants; in the right triangle, two wheat spikes, the whole emphasizing in a landscape scenery the municipality's resources and economical expression, completed by two tobacco plants surrounding the shield.
One of the stripes features the colors of the flag of Rio Grande do Sul, recalling that the municipality is part of the Riograndenense community, while the other features on a white background the green writing "ORA ET LABORA", synthesizing the faith of Nova Palma's people and its aspiration to a better future.
The scroll contains, on a yellow background, year "1884", as the start of colonization, the name of the municipality, "NOVA PALMA", and year "1960", the municipality's year of official creation.
All the outlines are blue and the fields white, except the fields of the upper and lower triangles, which are celestial blue, representing Nova Palma's sky surrounding Serra de São Martinho and covering the factories.
