Municipality

The municipality of Vista Alegre (2,832 inhabitants; 7,700 ha) is located 470 km of Porto Alegre.

Vista Alegre was estalbished in 1919 by colonists of Italian origin, coming from the regions of Guaporé and Júlio de Castilhos.
The municipality of Vista Alegre was established by Municipal Law No. 8,596 promulgated on 9 May 1988, separating from Frederico Westphalen, and inaugurated on 1 January 1989.

Symbols

The flag of Vista Alegre is prescribed by State Law No. 113 promulgated on 18 July 1990.

Article 2.
The flag shall have the following design and dimensions.
a) Rectangular shape.
b) Dimensions: Width on length proportions 1/1.45.
c) Design: Composed of a rectangle, divided into three smaller rectangles, in width 1/3 of the main rectangle, the upper rectangle, red, the intermediate rectangle, yellow, and the lower rectangle, green, with a white central lozenge charged with the municipal coat of arms.

The lozenge featuring the coat of arms shall have a width between its lower and upper angles of 4/5 of the flag's width.

Article 3.
The colors of the flag shall have the following meaning.
a) Red represents communion with the state, the soil and the pioneers' courage and struggle.
b) Yellow represents the municipality's resources.
c) Green represents the forest and people's aspiration to the progress of the municipality.
d) White represents peace and union within the community.

The coat of arms of Vista Alegre is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 112 promulgated on 18 July 1990.

Article 2.
The coat of arms shall be constituted of:
a) An Italic shield, shaped like a rectangle divided into three smaller rectangles.
b) The rectangle in base, white, features the parish church, yellow, which represents the community's faith and belief, and a rising sun in the upper left angle, which represents sports amateurs through Clube Esportivo Recreativo Cultural Sol da América, the municipality's first sport club.
c) The upper left rectangle, green, features a pig, representing pig breeding in the municipality.
d) The upper right rectangle, green, features two cows, representing milk production in the municipality.
e) On the shield's left side appears a soybean plant, on the shield's right side a maize plant and in base a wheat plant, which represents the municipality's agricultural production.
f) Beneath the shield, a red traditional scroll bears the writing "20/12/87" (date of organization of the plebiscite) and "09/05/88" (date of creation of the municipality).
g) The shield is surmounted by a red five-towered mural crown, representing people's nobleness.

Article 3.
The colors of the coat of arms have the following meaning.
a) Green represents rainforests and people's aspiration to the progress of the municipality.
b) Yellow represents the municipality's resources.
c) Red represents communion with the state, the soil and the pioneers' courage and struggle.
d) White represents peace and union within the community.
