Municipality

The municipality of Braço de Trombudo (3,743 inhabitants in 2019; 8,968 ha) is located 275 km west of Florianópolis.

Braço de Trombudo was settled in 1920-1921 by German pioneers coming from Blumenau and the neighboring areas.
Trombudo refers to the trunks (tromp) of the tapirs, once very common in the area, and of the trunk-shaped bed of river Itajaí-Açu. The epithet is used in other local toponyms, such as Barra do Trombudo, Trombudo Central and Trombudo Alto.
The municipality of Braço de Trombudo was established by State Law No. 8,355 promulgated on 26 September 1991, separating from Trombudo Central, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of Braço de Trombudo are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 28 promulgated on 22 April 1993.

Article 1.
The flag is composed of three equal field arranged vertically, each of 7.5 units in length, the first, green, representing the municipality's forest and vegetation, the second, white, representing the municipality's peace and prosperity, and the third, yellow, representing the municipality's resources. The municipal coat of arms shall be placed in the center of the second field.

Article 2.
The heraldic design of the coat of arms of the municipality represents its sources of income, rivers and waterfalls, traditions and the town, while the dove looking dexter represents forests, peace, knowledge and hope.
