Background

Comando por una ACLS (Comando por una Asamblea Constituyente Libre y Soberana - Command for a Free and Sovereign Constituent Assembly) emerged on 2 October 2020 in different towns of Chile. The movement was initiated by leftist unions, political parties and organizations. The movement supported the creation of a new Constitution but rejected the set up of a "Mixed Convention" or "Constituent Assembly" controlled by President Piñera and the "electoral scheming parties." On 20 October 2020, 78% of the voters agreed for a new Constitution. The 155 Chileans tasked to draft the new Constitution will be elected in a subsequent vote.
