Translated from municipal web site:
"Blue first represents the magnificence of our common sky, which is the source of the so important winds; blue also represents our great hydric resources, made of the River Magdalena (Mopòx branch), the marshes of Papelillo, the Turtles brook, the Toad marshes, the Veladero marshes and all the marshy areas of the municipality, which are the source of income for most of our families and the way to progress via commerce.
White represents the majestuous white gold, that is milk and its derived products. Milk production is our main economy, since products like whey and cheese are essential for the people of the coast. Cattle breeding is indeed the main source of employment; cow milking and watching employs a significant proportion of the population of the village.
Green is the colour of hope. It dominates our landscape so that the horizon merges with the hope and aspiration of the workers. The sun strengthens, feeds and enlights our path, in the daily work of farmers and fishers. It reflects the harvest and the flowers of cañahuate [cañahuate is Costus guaianesis Rusby (Family Costaceae), a not too distant relative of ginger, with medicinal properties. Flowers are also eaten in salad. I.S] that, carried by the wind, decorates our trails.
The heron is a general, allegoric representation of our profuse fauna, representing the freedom of our men and recalling our innocent youth.
The flag was designed by Abelardo Moreno Martinez."
