Presentation

The Public Order Police (Polícia de Ordem Pública) was replaced in 2005 by the current entity, Polícia Nacional. It is roughly the same kind of police force, mostly a matter of a new name.

About the flag

The flag of the National Police of Cape Verde was adopted on November 12, 2007. (Source: official website).
Jens Pattke, 19 Jun 2012

These vexillological symbols (both flags and the “coat of arms” that shows on them) are prescribed in the chap. III of this law. The 10 stars that are shown on both flags symbolize the 10 islands of the country, just like in the national flag. The shade of blue is named celeste but illustrated as medium blue.

  • Art. 24.º says that the “heraldic flag” is 100 cm long and 76 cm high, being both panels identical, with the emblem centered on the whole and flanked by 10 stars.
  • Art. 25.º uses the interesting term «compass star» (estrela bússola) — a faceted 5 pointed star with a smaller one rotated 36° under it, its tips protruding between the bigger ones. The emblem is called both a coat of arms (Brasão de Armas) and a logo (logomarca).
  • Art. 26.º describes the banner, which has the same sizes as the flag, with additional 40 cm of golden fringe along all three free edges.
