Merkendorf Coat of Arms

Shield Argent parted by a saltire Gules, superimposed by an anchor Sable.
Meaning:
The oldest seal print is from 1559. It already displays the saltire, taken from the arms of the Counts of Oettingen, who owned large estates in the area since the 13th century. The saltire was connected with an initial "M" until the 18th century. The initial was however misinterpreted as an anchor. Thus Otto Hupp (1925) displayed a blue reversed anchor, being similar to the initial. Other sources and seals since the 19th century displayed the current pattern.
