Ehningen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In the base of a blue shield is a red apple, held by a golden (= yellow) claw of a duck.
Meaning:
The oldest seal of Ehningen dates from the middle of the 16th century and displays St. Mary's Annunciation, she is patron saint of the village. In 1681 an arrowhead or a plough share were used. In the 19th century the duck's foot appears on the border stones, and, since 1844 it is also shown on the town hall. The origin of the duck's foot is not known. It may be derived from the old name of the village (Oendingen, supposedly derived from Ent-dingen, i.e. duck ( German: Ente), or from the nickname of the villagers: duck-breeders. The origin of the apple is not known at all. The current pattern was used on seals since 1919, the tinctures were fixed in 1923.
