Bad Herrenalb Coat of Arms

Shield Sable; a bend sinister, chequered of Gules and Argent; superimposed by an alb Argent, being Gules inside and pierced by a crozier Or in pale.
Meaning:
The Cistercian Monastery of Herrenalb is the core of the namesake hamlet alongside the bank of Alb River. The monastery was established in 1149 and converted to Protestantism in 1535. The monastery's hamlet developed to a civic municipality in 1791, gained the title of a spa (German: Bad) and finally in 1887 the rank of a city. The title of a spa however was granted later in 1971. The oldest municipal seal already displayed the chequered Cistercian bend in saltire with a crozier. At the end of the 19th century the city adopted the former arms of the monastery. The alb, a white robe of a choir, is punning. The rivers name sounds similar.
