Meaning:
The municipality was established in 1978 as Tandern and renamed in 1980 as Hilgertshausen-Tandern. The axes are taken from the abolished (1971) arms of Hilgertshausen. They are reminding on the Lösch kin, local rulers from 1517 until 1813. The bend is taken from the arms of of the Lung kin, local rulers of Tandern from 1486 until 1640. Ironically they had been interpreted as battle axes due to a battle on trial in the 1980ies, when Tandern was defeated and its efforts to avoid the merger with Hilgertshausen failed.
