Landau Coat of Arms

Shield Argent two bends Gules.
Meaning:
The oldest seal, shaped like a shield, is known by prints since 1263. It displayed a field sinister-bendy of three under a chief charged with lozenges. The main field probably displayed the arms of the Lords of Leublfing. A member of that family had been the chief judge in the city between 1263 and 1270. The lozenges are taken from the arms of the Wittelsbach kin as local rulers. Since 1290 the lozengy chief was omitted on the city seals. Since 1523 the same pattern appeared on coloured paintings. The current pattern appeared sporadically since the middle of the 16th century and exclusively since the 18th century.
