Mertingen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a patriarchal cross Argent, at sinister Vairy, base parted per pale of Argent and Gules.
Meaning:
The tinctures white and red are alluding to the Bishopric of Augsburg, which owned large estates in the village since the 11th century. The cross is a representation of that one in the Convent of the Holy Cross in Donauwörth, the former local ruler. The Vairy half is reminding on the Marshals of Pappenheim, who had been liege lords in the village around 1280.
