Oettingen Coat of Arms

Shield Gules parted by a saltire Argent cotised black-white-black.
Meaning:
The family arms of the Counts of Oettingen, later upgraded to princes, had always been a white saltire in a red shield. It appeared first on a seal print from 1440 in a triangular shield and remained the same on city seals from the 16th and 17th century and on a court seal from the 15th century, connected with vair. A false encoding in Petra Sancta code around 1700 caused temporarily a false blue background. The red background was however known at least since 1683.
