Freiamt Coat of Arms

Shield Or a bend Gules, in dexter base a fir Vert stemmed Sable and issuant from base, in sinister chief a crescent recumbent Gules with face, accompanied by two 6-point stars Gules in bend sinister.
Meaning:
On 1 July 1971 Freiamt and Ottoschwanden merged. Both villages belonged to the Margraviate of Baden-Hachberg since the late medieval and to the Margraviate of Baden-Baden since 1415. Bend, crescent and stars were displayed in seals of Ottoschwanden since the 18th century and in its arms since 1913, when the tinctures had been fixed. The arms of former Freiamt displayed in a shield, parted per pale, the Badenian bend at dexter and a green fir on a green triplemount in a silver field at sinister. Fir and triplemount were representing the location in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) and had been in local seals of Freiamt since 1587.

Banner and arms of then Ottoschwanden-Freiamt were approved on 31 October 1972 by Minister of Interior of Baden-Württemberg, published in GABl 1084/1973.
