Neuenkirchen Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms: The green shield is divided by a silver (=white) bend. Above left is a silver (= white) horsehead. The horse is blindfolded by a red piece of cloth. Below right is a golden (= yellow) bell. Meaning: Once upon a time the inhabitants tried to build a church. But the church burned down thrice before having been finished. The people thought that this was caused by the influence of the devil, who was dwelling in that place. As they found no agreement about a new suitable place, a horse was put to a waggon, bearing the church's bell. The horse should find the new place. In order to avoid that the horse would return to its stable, it was blindfolded. The church finally was erected in the place, where the horse stopped. The church even today stands at the same place.
