Usedom Coat of Arms

In a silver (=very light grey) shield is a dexter facing light blue helmet crowned golden (=yellow) and crested by peacock feathers in natural colour. The shield is topped by a light blue helmet crowned golden (= yellow) and crested by peacock feathers in natural colour, accompanied by silver (= very light grey) and light blue scarves. The helmet is flanked by two narrow bicolour pennants horizontally divided light blue over silver (= very light grey).
Meaning:
Light blue and silver had been the colours of Vorpommern. Duke Bogislaw IV of Pommern-Wolgast granted city rights to Usedom in 1298. The pattern of seals and arms changed frequently. Before 1720, known from secret seals of the 14th century, the helmet had a lattice visor and was crested with peacock feathers only. In the 1930ies the arms displayed a white griffin with fish tail in a red shield. But the pattern with helmet never disappeared and was restored in the 1970ies, displaying a blue helmet crested with alternating blue and red peacock feathers. The current pattern, introduced in 1997, displays the helmet crested by a coronet and green peacock feathers with golden "eyes". This helmet is referring to the founder of the city and according to source based on the image on top of door of the Anklam Gate but a look to a photo of the gate reveals at least a completely different shape of the helmet.
