Zell Coat of Arms

Shield quartered, 1st and 4th quarter quartered of Argent and Gules, 2nd quarter Argent a leaf Sable, 3rd quarter Sable a leaf Argent.
Meaning:
Due to the common administration of the market towns of Sparneck and Zell, both towns used the same symbols for a long time, even after both entities had been separated. The leaves are based on an error, as the common arms displayed hearts reversed instead. In 1862 the leaves were introduced by Hefner and the error was kept since then. Local seals since 1914 caused more confusion as the tinctures white and black of the quartered Zollern shield were replaced by white and red. The name affix "in Fichtelgebirge" was added on 15 Juliy 2007.
