It is a white-blue vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is in a white bannerhead. Beneath the shield is a black inscription "Melsungen".

Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable with port Azure, crowned by a tower Argent masoned sable roofed Gules.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city from 1267, which showed the same pattern but with two stars beside the tower and have been used since 1577. The second seal, from the 14th century omitted the stars.
The arms were approved in 1906.
