Coat of Arms

Shield off-centred parted per pale; at dexter Gules a6-spokes wheel Argent, issuant from wheel four oak leaves of the same; at sinister Argent a black woodpecker (Latin: Dryocopus martius) Proper.
Meaning:
Oak leaves and woodpecker are alluding to the Spessart, a regional forest, the leaves are also representing the four hamlets of the municipality: Burgjoß, Oberndorf, Pfaffenhausen and Lettgenbrunn. The wheel is alluding to the Archbishops of Mainz, the former rulers. The colours red and white are those of Hesse. Burgjoß, Oberndorf and Pfaffenhausen merged on 31 December 1971 forming Jossatal municipality, Lettgenbrunn joined on 1 July 1974 and the municipality was renamed.
The arms were approved on 27 February 1976.
