Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, in base a picket fence Argent with open double wing door with wings Argent, all crowned by three towers Argent with windows Azure and cone roofs Gules, in door a lion rampant Argent, crowned Or and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
Holzminden gained the rank of a city in the early 13th century. The first city seal is from that time, but prints didn't exist before 1535. A special feature is the picket fence instead of a mural wall, which the city never had. Another seal from 1255 added the lion of the Counts of Everstein in the door. The counts had granted city rights, which were confirmed in 1245 by Count Otto II of Everstein. The current arms are based upon the 2nd seal.
Arms and a, probably plain, bicolour were approved in 1905 by the Regent of Braunschweig.
