Brandis Coat of Arms

Shield Argent three heraldic roses Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert ordered 2:1.
The local parish church was mentioned in 1121. A estate existed since 1191. The village belonged to the Bishopric of Magdeburg, at least since 1378 to the Margraviate of Meißen and since 1445 to the Electorate of Sachsen. Brandis was called a market town in 1529 and a city in 1548. The pattern of the arms is known from local seals since the 14th century. The roses probably had been canting fire lilies (Latin: Lilia bulbiferum), as "Brand" is a synonym of fire.
