Elsenfeld gained the status of a market town in 1965. The bend wavy is representing the name giving little Elsava River, name giver until the 17th century. The sinister half also is canting, referring to an aspen (in German also called: Else) and the green base, representing a field (German: Feld). The wheel is taken from the arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz, to which the village historically belonged until 1803.
