Meaning:
The village of Burkersdorf belonged to the Lordship of Rochsburg, consisted of seven farms and was called a market town since the 14th century. The current name was in use not before the end of the 17th century. Main business lines had been the production linen and silk, later of all kinds of textiles including factories for weaving, spinning and dyeing. In 1994 the Spanish shield was placed onto a green Baroque cartouche. The castle is stressing the status of a city. The inescutcheon displays the arms of the Margraves of Meißen, former local rulers.
