Seligenstadt Arms

The shield is parted per pale. At dexter in a field Or is a demi-eagle sable, armed and crowned Gules. At sinister in a field Gules is a demi-wheel Argent.
Meaning:
The arms were approved in 1952 and combine the imperial eagle and the wheel of Mainz. The oldest seals of the city are known since 1267. The oldest two seals both show a crowned imperial eagle, the third shows a king on a throne. The three seals indicate that the city was under direct imperial rule (Reichsstadt). In 1309 the city became a possession of the Archbishops of Mainz, and the next seal showed the archbishop on a throne, with in the upper part the wheel of the State of Mainz. All later seals until the late 19th century show the wheel of the Archbishopric of Mainz combined with a monogram with the letters SL for the name of the city.
